Purchasing with a requisition allows you, if you have received a requisition under the "Free Choice of Assistive Devices" program, to choose and purchase an assistive device yourself that meets your assessed needs. At VI HP, you can browse our products and place your order directly at vihp.se.
VI HP currently only accepts requisitions issued within Region Stockholm.
If you do not yet have a requisition, start by contacting the healthcare system for a needs assessment. If you have already received your requisition, you can choose the correct assistive device and follow the ordering guide further down the page.
How purchasing with a requisition works
"Free Choice of Assistive Devices" is an alternative to standard prescription for certain devices. With a standard prescription, you usually loan the device. With "Free Choice," you instead receive a requisition for a set amount, giving you the opportunity to purchase an assistive device that corresponds to the needs identified by the prescriber.
You and your prescriber will determine together whether "Free Choice" is appropriate. This option is available for certain devices within areas such as mobility and vision.
The requisition specifies which type of device you may purchase and the applicable requisition amount. Therefore, it does not function as a gift card that can be used for products of your choice.
When you complete a purchase using a requisition, the device becomes your property. This differs from standard prescription, where the device is usually on loan.
How to obtain a requisition
You cannot order a requisition from VI HP. The first step is to have your needs assessed by a prescriber.
If this is the first time you need a mobility aid, you can contact a primary care rehabilitation center. There, professionals such as occupational therapists and physiotherapists work with assessment, trial, and prescription of assistive devices. In Stockholm County, you can contact primary care rehabilitation directly without a referral.
You can also contact your local healthcare center (vårdcentral) or your municipality's health and social care services for help in reaching the right department. If you already have contact with a specialist clinic for your assistive device, you can turn to them. If you live in a nursing home, you can start by talking to a nurse, occupational therapist, or physiotherapist at the facility.
During the assessment, the prescriber will review the difficulties you face in everyday life and the support an assistive device could provide. Then, they will assess which type of device fits your needs and whether "Free Choice" can be used.
If "Free Choice" is applicable, you will receive a requisition. Once issued, you can proceed with purchasing using the requisition from a supplier that can process it. You can also read more about "Free Choice of Assistive Devices" at the Vårdgivarguiden here.
Who can issue a requisition
A requisition is issued by a prescriber who has authorization within the assistive device field relevant to your needs.
A prescriber may be, for example, an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech-language pathologist, audiologist, vision rehabilitation specialist, or nurse. Which professional group is relevant depends on the device and the individual needs assessment.
For mobility aids, occupational therapists and physiotherapists are common prescribers. For certain devices, other licensed professional groups may also have prescribing rights.
The prescriber is responsible for the needs assessment and the decision regarding which assistive device is appropriate. VI HP does not issue the requisition and does not perform the medical assessment.
Assistive devices and requisition amounts
Region Stockholm publishes a list of the mobility aids covered by "Free Choice" and the applicable requisition amounts.
The document contains the device's name, ISO code, and requisition amount. It includes bath aids, toilet seat raisers, walking aids, rollators, transfer aids, ramps, and several other product groups. The list also includes special aids for children.
You can read the current list here.
Choose the right product for purchase with a requisition
Once you have received the requisition, you can start choosing assistive devices on vihp.se. Always base your choice on the type of device stated on the requisition.
If the requisition, for example, applies to a rollator for indoor use, you must choose a rollator that can be used indoors. You cannot choose a model intended only for outdoor use.
A combined rollator for both indoor and outdoor use can, however, be chosen provided it also meets the requirements for indoor use.
The region's current list distinguishes between rollators for indoor use and rollators for outdoor use. Both have ISO code 120606 but different requisition amounts.
The same principle applies to other assistive devices. If the requisition is for a bath board, you choose a bath board. If it is for a shower stool, you choose a product that corresponds to that type of device.
You can choose between different models that fit the requisition. This allows you to take factors such as design, features, and personal preferences into account while ensuring the device meets the assessed need.
If you want to make a purchase with a requisition but are unsure which of our products is suitable, you can contact us before placing your order.
Price and requisition amount
The requisition contains a fixed amount for the assistive device.
If the product you choose costs more than the requisition amount, you can pay the remaining balance yourself. This means you can choose a more expensive model as long as it still corresponds to the device type on the requisition.
If the product costs less, the actual price is used. The remaining amount cannot be used for other products because the requisition applies to a specific assistive device.
You do not need to split the payment between the requisition and another payment method yourself at checkout. VI HP will handle any remaining balance after the requisition has been verified.
