Thumb support with splint for thumb stabilization

The Thumb Support with Splint is an elastic thumb orthosis that provides mechanical stabilization and relief for the CMC and MCP joints of the thumb. The orthosis is designed to provide support for rheumatic, degenerative, and overuse-related conditions. It features a removable aluminum splint and adjustable hook-and-loop straps, allowing for a customized fit around the thumb and wrist.

The dimensionally stable design combines elastic materials with targeted support for the thumb joints. The orthosis helps limit strenuous movements of the thumb while allowing the wrist to maintain its freedom of movement.

Stabilization and relief of thumb joints

The Thumb Support with Splint is designed to stabilize the thumb joints and provide relief during movement and loading. The integrated aluminum splint follows the shape of the thumb and helps limit movements that may cause discomfort.

The orthosis provides support for both the CMC joint at the base of the thumb and the MCP joint at the thumb's metacarpophalangeal joint. The design can be used for conditions occurring in connection with rheumatic diseases, degenerative changes, and repetitive strain.

Elastic materials and adjustable fit

The thumb support is made from a combination of cotton, nylon, rubber, perforated neoprene, polyester, elastane, and leather. These materials create a flexible construction, while the aluminum splint provides mechanical stabilization.

Adjustable hook-and-loop straps around the thumb and wrist make it possible to adapt the support to the shape of the hand. The removable splint is housed in a dedicated splint pocket.

Measurement and sizing
To choose the correct size, measure the circumference around the wrist with a measuring tape. Measure with the wrist in a neutral position and ensure the tape is snug against the skin without being tight.

Use and adjustment
The Thumb Support with Splint is applied by opening the thumb grip and sliding the orthosis over the thumb. Then, secure the support around the wrist and fasten it with the hook-and-loop strap.

The thumb grip is adjusted so that the soft part of the hook-and-loop strap covers the hard part. The edge band of the thumb opening should meet or slightly overlap according to the orthosis's design.

The manufacturer recommends that the orthosis be fitted by medically trained personnel. The product is intended for individual use and must not be reused by other patients.

Cleaning and care
Close the hook-and-loop straps and remove any splint from the splint pocket before washing. The orthosis can be washed at 40 °C according to the washing instructions. Use a laundry bag if possible and let the orthosis drip dry.

The SoftSkin material should be hand-washed with a replenishing detergent.
